Six of Skyliners lines went to Hershey, PA to compete in the 2012 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships this past weekend.

Every line earned a Gold or a Silver medal, reaffirming that the Skyliners are one of the premier programs, top to bottom, competing in synchronized skating.

Pre-Juvenile - GOLD medal

Each of our five qualifying lines (Sr., Jr., Novice, Intermediate, Juvenile) have earned their way to the US Figure Skating Synchronized Skating Championships in Worcester, MA, March 1-3, 2012.

Friday Results: 2012 Eastern Juvenile Champs and more

Skyliners Juvenile won the 2012 Eastern Synchronized Skating Championships

Skyliners continued this season's success during the first day of competition at Easterns held in Hershey, PA. The Juvenile team won its division on Friday night and qualified for Nationals as the top team in the East.

Intermediate earned a Silver medal for its performance and also qualified for Nationals, which will be held in Worcester, MA.

Our PreJuvenile scored first in the first round of the competition. Preliminary also scored first in the qualifying round. Both teams will skate in Saturday's finals.

Skyliners Senior skated a fantastic short program and is currently in Second place. They will skate their long program on Saturday evening.

"The Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team’s Junior line recently skated two near perfect programs in an effort to extend their membership on the USFS “World Team” for a third year at the 2012 World Junior Team Selection Competition in Lowell, Mass.

Competing against the strongest teams across the country, the Skyliners’ Junior line’s combined program score of 162.44 was enough to win the competition and earn the honor of being named Team USA 1. The Skyliners, who feature many skaters from Greenwich, earned a score of 49.61 for their short program, an upbeat and energetic program skated to Lady Gaga’s ”Edge of Glory.” This was enough for third place, only .22 points behind the Lexettes of Lexington, Mass., and five points behind Team Braemar of Braemar, Minn."

Both synchronized teams qualify for the 2012 Junior World Challenge Cup

(01/09/2012) - The Skyliners and Team Braemar will once again be representing the U.S. at the 2012 Junior World Challenge Cup (JWCC) as they finished first and second, respectively, at the 2012 World Junior Synchronized Team Selection Competition over the weekend in Lowell, Mass. They 2012 Junior World Challenge Cup will take place March 15-17 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Skyliners, who represent the Skating Club of New York, battled back from a third-place showing in the short program to easily win the free skate and edge Team Braemar by just over one point for the win. They totaled 162.44 points for the weekend.

The free skate, set to music from Black Swan and Swan Lake, featured 10 elements that all received positive grades of execution (GOE). The moves in the field earned 7.49 points, thanks to a GOE of 2.29. The reigning U.S. junior national champions also received over seven points for their line element as they earned 112.83 points for the segment."

Inklings Online: In Sync: The Art of Synchronized Skating

Inklings Online, the publication of the Staples High School in CT published an article about the Skyliners and Michaela McDonald on December 16, 2011.

"Sixteen to 20 girls wearing bedazzled costumes line up in formation, balancing on the two blades of their ice skates, while judges watch very intently for any mistake.

This is the start to every program for synchronized figure skating: a sport that is comprised of a group of figure skaters who move across the ice creating interesting formations and dance and incorporating the intricacies of ice skating.

Ice skating for Michaela McDonald ’13 and her fellow teammates is a rigorous sport that requires the mastery of techniques."

The Skyliners continued their terrific weekend on Sunday.

Skyliners Preliminary skaters finished first at the 2011 Terry Conners Open. Their Pre-Prelimnary teammates finished fifth in the same division.

Skyliners Pre-Juvenile finished first in their division at Terry Conners. Juvenile finished second in their division.

In Ann Arbor, Skyliners Junior are the CHAMPIONS of the 16th Annual Dr. Richard Porter Synchronized Classic after winning the long program performance (lp 96.48; t 144.19). Le Supremes was 2nd (lp 91.49; t 135.11); Chicago Jazz was 3rd (lp 85.94; t 128.17) and Miami Univ. JV was 4th (lp 73.96; t 115.79).

Also at Dr. Porter, Skyliners Senior completed their amazing initial competitive performance with their fourth place finish in the long program and overall.

Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team Prelminary Skaters compete at The 2011 Thanksgiving Classic

November 22, 2011: The Darien Times wrote about the Skyliners' performances at The Thanksgiving Classic.

"Seven of the eight Skyliners lines competed at the Thanksgiving Classic in Plymouth, Mass. recently, with all of the lines having strong performances.

With Darien girls much in the mix, the Skyliners brought home six gold medals, one silver, and one bronze.

It was a season opening reminiscent of last year’s opening competition, which led to Skyliners most successful year yet."

Sennett Cooke Named to USFS DREAM Program

The Skyliners are very proud and excited to announce that Sennett Cooke, a co-captain of our Junior line, has been named to the United States Figure Skating DREAM Program. This incredible achievement is a testament to Sennett's long commitment to her teammates, coaches and her sport. Sennett is a founding member of Skyliners, where she has skated for the past 11 years. Sennett joins Skyliners alumnae Audrey Mcquade (Northeastern - Haydenettes) and Ashley Mulhern (Miami University - Senior) among the 11 skaters who are designated ambassadors of the sport from among its Team USA competitors.

Skyliners Head Coach, Josh Babb, said: "I am extremely proud of Sennett and excited that she has been selected for DREAM. She is a great advocate for the sport."

USFS updated its website with the names and biographical information for all of the DREAM Program members.

DREAM stands for "Determination, Responsibility, Education, Achievement, Motivation." This is a joint USFS program of the Synchronized Development Subcommittee and the Synchronized Skating Committee. The six new participants were selected from around the country to be a part of the program for the next two seasons and they join five current DREAM team members who will be continuing their participation in the program for another season. DREAM athletes join U.S. Figure Skating in various activities to support and promote synchronized skating in the United States. They are dedicated to sharing their passion for the sport with others and "give back". They are leaders and role-models for young skaters around the country.

USFS described some of the DREAM athletes' responsibilities, including:

Volunteering as a guest speaker, presenter, team leader, etc., at the 2012 U.S. Figure Skating Synchronized Training Festival and DREAM Camps.
Serving as a spokesperson when requested, to promote various U.S. Figure Skating synchronized skating programs.
Contributing ideas and articles for a synchronized skating newsletter and / or SKATING magazine's "In Synch" column, as well as providing blog posts throughout the season.
Supporting grassroots teams. Their names will be published as contacts to speak with young skaters and parents about the benefits of participating in synchronized skating.

In this fourth year of the DREAM Program, Sennett will make us all proud by representing the Skyliners and USFS in this role. Please join the Board and the Coaches in wishing Sennett "Congratulations" on this achievement!

PLYMOUTH, Mass. – Seven of the eight Skyliners synchronized skating lines that competed at the Thanksgiving Classic Saturday were medal winners with the team garnering five gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

Gold medals were earned by the Junior, Novice, Intermediate, Pre-Juvenile, and Preliminary lines, which include skaters from several Westchester communities including, Scarsdale, Armonk, Bedford, White Plains, Pelham, Irvington, Ossining, Harrison, Cortlandt Manor, Katonah, Larchmont, New Rochelle, Purchase, Eastchester, Briarcliff and Yorktown.

Skyliners younger skaters celebrate their medals from the 2011 Thanksgiving Classic in Plymouth, MA

Plymouth, MA - November 13, 2011 – Seven of the eight Skyliners lines competed at the Thanksgiving Classic in Plymouth, MA, this past Saturday. All of the lines gave fantastic performances, and brought home 6 gold medals, one silver, and one bronze.

Gold medals were earned by the Junior (both long and short programs), Novice, Intermediate, Pre Juvenile, and Preliminary lines. The Pre-Preliminary line, competing in the Preliminary division, earned the silver medal, allowing Skyliners to take the top 2 spots in that division. The Juvenile line earned a bronze medal.

Dare to DREAM: Skyliners Alumnae Write About College and Skating

Last year, two member of Skyliners Junior line were named to US Figure Skating's DREAM program. Audrey McQuade and Ashley Mulhern were both high school senior at the time. Each has gone to college and recently updated the DREAM blog with information about their new challenges.

Dare to DREAM: A New Chapter: Hey Everyone, This blog is long overdue, but I hope that it finds everyone well at the start of our 2011-2012 seasons. I just recently started a new chapter of my life as I moved out to Oxford, Ohio to start my freshman year at Miami University. One of the hardest things about this transition, other than moving 13 hours away from my mom, dad, and younger sister, was moving away from the other huge piece of my life, my 20 “sisters” and “family”, my team, the Skyliners. After skating with the Skyliners organization for the past 9 years, there were definitely a few tears shed as I had to say goodbye, but that being said, I was excited for the new opportunity that stood ahead of me. My Skyliners coaches, including Josh Babb, Jenny Gibson, and Sarah LeBlanc Blosat, could not have prepared me better as both a skater and person for the challenges that I face in college.

Dare to DREAM: October with the Haydenettes: October proved to be a very busy month for the Haydenettes. The first weekend in October, the Haydenettes and the Lexettes participated in the Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in downtown Boston. Both teams enjoyed spending our Sunday morning making a difference right in our hometown. We decked out in pink and maroon attire and walked alongside the Charles River. The Haydenettes enjoyed a nice team lunch before heading to practice that afternoon.

Skyliners 2011 Pep Rally A Huge Success!

Stamford, CT November 9, 2011 - The Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team officially kicked off their season this past Saturday at their annual Pep Rally. All eight Skyliners lines skated to a packed house at the Terry Conners Ice Rink in Stamford, CT. The 10 routines featured a wide variety of music, including selections from the Broadway classic 42nd Street, Lady Gaga's Edge of Glory, and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake (from the move Black Swan).

The Skyliners hope to duplicate and improve upon their competitive success from 2010-2011. The Junior line, which includes skaters up to 18 years of age, is the United States Figure Skating's (USFS) reigning Junior Synchronized Skating National Champion. Skyliners' Junior also finished in Fifth at the Junior World Challenge Cup in Neuchatel, Switzerland, the Junior world championships, and they won the 2011 Spring Cup in Milan, Italy. They are once again proud members of Team USA for 2011-2012. The Juvenile line is USFS's reigning National Champion, which includes skaters who are younger than 13 years old. Skyliners Novice and Intermediate divisions were also USFS National medalists last year. The 3 youngest lines all won the Eastern Challenge series in their divisions.

Skyliners Head Coach Josh Babb, "I am thrilled with the progress of our skaters, and the Skyliners are eager to kick off the competitive season this Saturday in Plymouth, MA. I am excited to see even more growth as the season continues, and I am looking forward to seeing what accomplishments they achieve this season."

The next event for the Skyliners is the Thanksgiving Classic in Plymouth, MA on Saturday, November 12th.

Main Street Connect: Skyliners Skating Team Steps Off Season in Synch

We have put together an amazing International coaching staff and program for the 2 day camp for higher level skaters (age 10 and passed preliminary moves). We look forward to seeing all of you take advantage of what will be a great experience with 10 hours of on and off ice instruction as well as an exhibition on Sunday at the conclusion of the camp.

We are also extremely excited about our 1 day camp for developmental lines (Sunday only).

Skaters will be divided into groups by age, skill and test level at both camps in order to maximize the teaching by some of the World's top synchro coaches.

(5/10/11) - U.S. Figure Skating and the Professional Skaters Association (PSA) announced the nominees for the 2011 Coach of the Year awards. Skyliners SST is proud to announce that Head Coach Josh Babb is nominated for the 2011 Paul McGrath Choreographer of the Year Award along with Scott Brown, Lori Nichol, Cindy Stuart, Marina Zoueva and Igor Shpilband. The award is given to the choreographer that best exemplifies the dedication to artistic excellence portrayed by Paul McGrath in his career.

Additionally, Skyliners Senior Coaches Josh Babb and Pam May are each nominated as 2011 U.S. Figure Skating/PSA Developmental Coach of the Year Award along with Kori Ade, Damon Allen, Dmytri Ilin, Alexi Kiliakov and Elena Novak, David Kirby, Pam May and Cindy Sullivan. This award is given in recognition of new talent and superior teaching technique for a coach who has a career record of helping athletes develop to higher levels of the sport and as human beings. A nominee for developmental coach must never have had a senior national champion and should be recognized for their work with skaters below the senior level.

Sennett Cooke and the Skyliners synchronized skating team carve up the ice all around the US and abroad-- and win medals doing it.

Sennett Cooke laced up her first pair of skates when she was 4 years old and joined the prominent tri-state area synchronized skating team--the Skyliners--when she was six. She has been skating competitively ever since.

Sennett competes from November to March every year. Competitions involve a short program of two and a half minutes and a long program of four and a half minutes with 16 skaters gliding across the ice in precisely choreographed routines.

Manhasset Press: Manhasset High School Senior Wins National Championship

The Manhasset Press published an article on Alex Boisselle and the Skyliners on Friday, April 8, 2011.

Manhasset High School Senior, Alexandra Boisselle, and her synchronized skating team, The Skyliners, won the gold medal at the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships in Ontario, California, March 3-5. Scoring 127.48 points for their free skate performance to the music of Phantom of the Opera and 63.37 points for their short program. The team skated their best performance of the season, finishing 12 points ahead of the second place team. This remarkable achievement was the ultimate reward to an astounding season for the Westchester based skating team.

After finishing first at the World Junior Team Selection held in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, January 7 and 8, they earned the distinction of being named “Team USA 1.” The Skyliners then embarked on a harrowing but satisfying two-month tour of the nation and Europe. On Jan. 31 The Skyliners preformed in North Carolina in an exhibition at the “Smuckers’ U.S. Skating Spectacular.” Then it was on to Milan, Italy where the team competed in early February at the 2011 Spring Cup. Representing the USA, The Skyliners placed first bringing home the gold medal.

Skyliners Beginner, Preliminary & Pre Juvenile are 2011 Eastern Challenge Champions

Congratulations to the Skyliners Preliminary, Pre Juvenile and Beginner lines who are the 2010-11 Eastern Synchronized Skating Challenge Series Champions! The teams won this title due to their high placements at competitions this year. After each competition teams in the Challenge Series were given points based on their final placement and how many teams were in their flight at the competition. At the end of the competitive season, the best 3 scores are tallied for the final placement.

This marks the second year in a row as Eastern Challenge Series Champions for Skyliners Preliminary and Beginner! Pre Juvenile won the title during its inaugural season!

"The Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team won national titles in the Junior and Juvenile divisions at the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships earlier this month in Ontario, Calif.

Joining their teammates on the medals podium were the Skyliners Intermediate squad, which took silver, and their Novice skaters, who earned the pewter medal (fourth).

"I am so proud of the skaters on our four lines because they worked hard all year long and then came to Nationals and performed their best," coach Josh Babb said.

The Junior team locked up its championship with a free skate program that Babb described as "the performance of their lives." The other skaters in attendance stood and applauded when the Skyliners were done.

The Skyliners' 9- to 12-year-old Juvenile line "gave a fantastic performance at their biggest competition," coach Natalie Martello said. "They made our organization very proud.""

Blue Mill Road resident Paige Shepperly’s synchronized skating team, The Skyliners, came in first place in the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, in Ontario, Calif., March 3 through March 5.

Prepared to head off to college this fall, the Kent Place School senior said in a previous interview that she plans to hang up her skates for a while.

She can do so knowing she reached the pinnacle, that’s for sure.

Featuring Greenwich High School students Mairead Brock and Brooke Abbott, the talented team finished a strong fifth at last week's 19-team Junior World Challenge.

The local squad competed as Team USA 1 at the event, which included teams from Germany, Russia, England, Italy and France.

"The key to our success was remaining focused and having fun," said Abbott, a Cos Cob resident, who is in her sophomore year at GHS. "Our coach (Josh Babb) gave us the slogan `Get the job done' at the beginning of the season, and it stayed with us the whole year."

Skating to the song "Don't Rain On My Parade," the Skyliners finished sixth in the short program and were an impressive fourth while performing to songs from the "Phantom of the Opera."

"We were definitely really happy with finishing fifth overall," said Brock, a junior at Greenwich High. "Competing against so many different teams at the World Challenge was really an amazing experience.""

"Jasmine Lin, a junior of Watchung Hills Regional High School, who skates with the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team, won the Junior and Juvenile divisions of the US Synchronized Skating National Championships, held from March 2 to 5 in Ontario, Calif.

In addition, the intermediate line finished second, earning the silver medal, and the novice line placed fourth and won the Pewter metal in their division.

This four-medal performance marked the Skyliners as one of the elite synchronized skating organizations in the country.

“I am so proud of the skaters on our four qualifying lines because they worked hard all year long and then came to Nationals and performed their best,” said Josh Babb, the Skyliners’ head coach. “I am also thankful to have the confidence and support of wonderful parents and to be able to work with the best coaches anywhere. "The Skyliners, Team Braemar and Lexettes finished 1-2-3, respectively, for the second time this season. For the Skyliners and Braemar, the U.S. Championships were not only good for the trophy case but also a nice warm up for the upcoming World Junior Challenge Cup. For their part, the Lexettes couldn't have had a better ending to the season.

A typically reserved coach Josh Babb of the Skyliners readily called thisPhantom of the Opera free skate "the performance of their lives." The team earned 127.48 of their 190.85 points during this segment.

"We have been consistent all season," he continued. "But this doesn't even compare. It was amazing."

They may have had trouble with it in practice, but when the time came for the Skyliners to perform their program-opening wheel, the problems had disappeared. The element saw a 2.43 grade of execution added to a base value of 5.20. From there, the program steadily gained momentum until the crowd was readily cheering and on its feet by the finale.

The team now hopes for another skate of their lives next weekend for the competition in Neuchatel, Switzerland.

"This is a major confidence booster for us," team co-captain Ashley Mulhern said. "I mean, our confidence is literally through the roof.""

"We improved so much in the few short weeks since sectionals," Martello said. "I am so pleased with how they have handled this season."

The Skyliners easily had one of the loudest cheering sections in the Citizens Business Bank Arena because their club has one of the largest synchronized skating programs in the country."

The highlight for the preliminary skaters was its first sectional championship at Lake Placid, N.Y., earlier this month. Their polished and fast performance to the music of "Bye Bye Birdie" earned first place in the qualifying and championship rounds. The competition featured 17 teams from the East Coast.

Skyliners Win 2011 Spring Cup in Milan | Skating Club of NY

The Skyliners Junior line won the 2011 Spring Cup in Milan, Italy on February 13, 2011. The Skyliners secured the championship with first place performances in both its energetic short program, skated to “Rain on my Parade” by Lea Michelle, and its elegant free skate to the music of the Phantom of the Opera. Skyliners scored 55.18 for the short program on Saturday night and it scored 102.78, on its free skate on Sunday night. Eleven Junior teams, representing six countries, participated in the competition. The Skyliners’ gold medal was only the fourth time a United States team won the Spring Cup junior competition.

Spring Cup was the Skyliners international assignment as part of Team USA for United States Figure Skating. The Skyliners were joined in Milan by two other junior teams as members of Team USA. Evolution earned the silver medal with 136.58 total points and The Hockettes merited the bronze medal with 127.82 total points. This combination displayed the depth of strength of US Figure Skating’s international synchronized skating program.

"In the final international event before the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships, four U.S. teams traveled to Milan, Italy, to compete at the Spring Cup, and all four teams returned home with medals. U.S. teams swept the podium in the junior event, with the Skyliners earning the gold, Evolution taking silver and the Hockettes claiming bronze. Miami University earned the bronze medal in the senior event.

The Skyliners, from New York, N.Y., skated a strong short program to "Don't Rain On My Parade" by Glee's Lea Michele, taking a lead of almost six points in that portion of the event. The team increased that lead with its free skate to music from The Phantom of the Opera, ending the competition with a total score of 158.00, more than 20 points ahead of its closest competitor.

The Skyliners' next international competition will be the 2011 Junior World Challenge Cup in Neuchatel, Switzerland. The team placed fifth at the 2010 JWCC and qualified to represent the United States as Team USA 1 at the 2011 event by winning the Junior World Team Selection Competition in January."

At Croton-Harmon High School, sophomore Peyton Delgorio maintains a mid-nineties average in her academic studies with an expressed goal of a future in medicine and science.

One can say that Peyton leads a dual, highly competitive life--as a driven student, and a nationally ranked synchronized skater of eight years--who is achieving one of her most passionate goals: to compete internationally at the Junior level with one of the most successful synchronized skating teams in the country--and the world. Per the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA), synchronized skating is a team sport in which eight to 20 skaters perform a program together and is characterized by teamwork, intricate formations, speed and challenging step sequences in a program set to music.

"HARDING TWP. — Kent Place senior Paige Shepperly is off to Milan, Italy, this week.

Shepperly and her Team USA synchronized skating team will compete in Italy in the 2011 Spring Cup championships from Tuesday, Feb. 8, to Sunday, Feb. 13.

But it might be time to hang up her ice skates, for a little while, at least, when she starts college in September.

The synchronized skater, a long-time Harding resident, is headed for international competition as a member of the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team.

Shepperly and her team of about 19 other girls will represent the United States, competing internationally this year.

By winning the World Junior Team Selection Competition held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7- 8, in Fond du Lac, Wisc., the Skyliners earned the top spot as “Team USA 1.”

The accomplishment enables them to compete against the best junior teams in the world at the 2011 Junior World Challenge Cup (JWCC) to be held Thursday, March 10, to Sunday, March 12, in Neuchatel, Switzerland.

“They are doing so well this year. It’s just phenomenal,” said Kathy Shepperly, Paige’s mom. “They are just an amazing team. In fact, a lot of girls are leaving other New Jersey teams to skate with the Skyliners because they are internationally competitive.”"

They are the reigning United States National Bronze medalists who are poised and determined to dazzle the fierce competition at this year’s National Championships in Ontario, California in March. They have placed either first or second in their four competitions this season, and their coach, Jenny Gibson, feels the sky’s the limit for her Skyliners Novice squad.

“The team has really come a long way from the beginning of the year to now. They’ve really stepped it up,” said Gibson, now in her eighth year as coach. “It is the best Novice team I have coached so far. They are really just an amazing group of kids.”

2011 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships (update 2)

The Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team showed on Friday night and Saturday what they are capable of and why they have worked so hard this season. Five lines competed and each of them earned a medal, three of them are now the 2011 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Champions.

Skyliners Preliminary, Juvenile and Intermediate each are the 2011 Eastern Champions. Skyliners Novice won the Silver medal and Pre-Juvenile won the Bronze medal

The Skyliners synchronized skating program, already one of the most successful in the country, began this season with impressive showings by all of its teams.

The Junior team, whose success made them world travelers last season, earned a trip to Neuchatel, Switzerland, to compete in the 2011 Junior World Challenge Cup this March.

Last year the Skyliners finished fifth in the world.
They earned this year's trip by taking top honors at the World Junior Team Selection Competition held at the Foot of the Lake Synchronized Skating Classic in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

After skating near-perfect programs in both the short competition and the free skate, they will head to Switzerland representing their country as Team USA1.

But, before that, the Skyliners Junior team will perform in the Smucker's U.S. Championships Skating Spectacular today (Jan. 30) — which will be televised on NBC Feb. 5 from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

The Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team, which includes five local girls, won a national competition last weekend in Wisconsin.

The Daily Papers of New Canaan, Greenwich and Darien published a story about the Skyliners on Tuesday, January 12, 2011.

Several local girls help the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team win the World Junior Team Selection competition last weekend in Fond du Lac, Wisc. Now, they'll get to see how they stack up against international skaters.

New Canaan's Ashley Mulhern, Darien's Ashley and Lauren Snow, and Cos Cob's Mairead Brock and Brooke Abbott helped the Skyliners take first place at last weekend's competition. The Skyliners and runner-up Team Braemar will head to the Junior World Challenge in March in Switzerland.

The Skyliners, representing the Skating Club of New York, skated to "Don't Rain on My Parade" by Lea Michele in winning the short program with a total of 56.72. In the free skate, the Skyliners accumulated 120.22 points for its clean and lyrical program skating to music from "Phantom of the Opera."

"We were caught in the moment," Skyliners captain Ashley Mulhern said. "We went out, had fun, expressed everything we had and had the time of our lives."

Skyliners Win World Junior Team Selection

Skyliners won the Junior World Qualifier held at the Foot of the Lake competition in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. USFSA's Ice Network reports:

(01/10/2011) - The top junior synchronized teams in the country headed to Fond du Lac, Wis., Jan. 7-8 for the World Junior Team Selection Competition. The top two finishers -- the Skyliners and Team Braemar -- will represent the United States March 10-12 at the Junior World Challenge Cup 2011 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.

The Skyliners representing the Skating Club of N.Y., were the first of the top teams to take the ice. Wearing bright orange dresses and skating to "Don't Rain on my Parade" by Lea Michele, the team electrified the arena with their short program. They earned strong technical scores, however, the team excelled in the program components scores, which were highlighted by seven point scores for both the choreography and interpretation scores, contributing to their leading score of 56.72 after the short program.

The Skyliners continued to dominate on Saturday night, earning 120.22 points for their clean and lyrical free skate to music from Phantom of the Opera. The team once again skated a strong technical program, earning positive grades of execution from every judge on every element of their program, including several marks of +3, the highest possible grade of execution. "We were caught in the moment," Skyliners captain Ashley Mulhern said, "We went out, had fun, expressed everything we had and had the time of our lives."

Most figure skating fans think of the sport as something for individual athletes or perhaps in pairs. New Canaan's Ashley Mulhern will tell you differently. As a member of the Skyliners synchronized skating team, she enjoys working with a unit.

"Everything we do is challenging,'' says the New Canaan High School senior. "The accomplishments and what we achieve are amazing."

Mulhern's team will skate in perhaps its most important competition of the season this week. The Skyliners are a tri-state team that includes girls from Fairfield County, Westchester County in New York and New Jersey. The 20-member team will compete in Fond du Lac, Wis., on Jan. 7 in the Foot of the Lake World Junior Team selection competition. The Skyliners won second place last year and then placed fifth in the Junior World Challenge Cup in Sweden. The top two teams from this week's competition advance to the Junior World Challenge Cup in Switzerland. Ashley will also head to Milan, Italy, in February for another international competition.

Picture 20 skaters moving around the ice at high speeds performing a combination of complicated turns, intricate steps and complex movements -- all as one cohesive unit.

This is synchronized skating, a sport that is growing in popularity around the world -- and right here in Greenwich.

A group of talented young girls from across the town are part of the highly competitive Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team, which is made up of 135 skaters and competes around the world. So far this season, the Skyliners have had strong showings at the Thanksgiving Classic in Plymouth, Mass., the Dr. Porter Classic in Ann Arbor, Mich., the Terry Connors Synchronized Skating Classic in Stamford and the Cape Cod Synchronized Skating Classic in Mass.

Skyliners skaters dream that their success will one day land them in the Olympics. Although the sport is not yet included in the games, synchronized skating was selected as a demonstration sport at the World University Games and has been under review for Olympics eligibility.

Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team Off To A Golden Start

December 17, 2010 – The Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team is off to a phenomenal start for the 2010-2011 competitive season. With the addition of 2 new lines, Pre Juvenile and Intermediate, the team has brought home more medals than in any other year. Five of the lines competed at the Cape Cod Classic in Bourne, MA, December 4-5, earning 5 gold medals and a silver medal.
